The hospice is located at the corner of Dufferin Row and Chapel Street in a residential area of Saint John West. The adaptive reuse project converted an existing convent into a healthcare and living facility. The building has been thoroughly renovated to provide administration areas, bedrooms, common areas, family gathering areas, a commercial kitchen, and health and nursing stations. There has been an external addition to accomodate the placement of an elevator. The existing convent required significant renovations and modifications to meet National Building Code requirements for this building type. The design of the hospice focused on providing a home atmosphere, working closely with the client to select finishes and fixtures, colours and materials. The end result is a comfortable healthcare environment without an institutional feel.
